The Story Behind The Mended Cup Coffee

How My Father and My Friends Inspired a Coffee Journey

Some stories begin with a business plan.
Mine began with a cup of coffee shared with my father.

Growing up, some of my most cherished memories came from simple moments at the kitchen table — just me, my dad, and two steaming mugs. They weren’t fancy roasts or trendy lattes, just honest, comforting cups of coffee. But it wasn’t the coffee itself that mattered. It was the connection. The pause in the day. The Conversation. My father was special in more ways than I could ever fit into words: warm, witty, effortlessly funny, and always ready with a story that made every moment brighter. The feeling that no matter what else was happening, everything in that moment felt whole.

My father taught me that a cup of coffee can do more than wake you up — it can mend, comfort, and bring people together.
That idea stayed with me long after those mornings faded into memories.

When I lost my dad, I didn’t fall into emptiness or depression.
But I did feel something that’s harder to describe: lost.

Not broken. Not hopeless.
Just navigating a life where my favorite coffee companion was no longer across the table. And I missed him — deeply. I missed the comfort of his voice, the way he saw the world, and the simple joy of sharing a hot cup of coffee together. I found myself trying to forge a new path while carrying his memory with me, wondering how to honor everything he had given me.

Why The Mended Cup Coffee Exists

I didn’t set out to start a business.
I set out to hold onto something meaningful — and share it.

The Mended Cup Coffee is my way of honoring the man who taught me that coffee is never just coffee. It’s connection. Its presence. It’s the pause that lets you breathe. It’s laughter across a table and memories that linger warmly even when the person isn’t physically there.

My father always seemly knew what to say, On the tough days, he’d tell me, “Go grab a mocha, take a moment, and then get back to it.” That tiny ritual carried so much comfort. It taught me that coffee can be a reset — a way to breathe, refocus, and feel supported. That message is woven into everything The Mended Cup coffee stands for.

I chose to curate coffees from Wisconsin’s finest roasters because quality matters — but meaning matters even more. Every roast, every mug, every box is crafted with the intention of creating the kind of moments my father and I shared so often: simple, real, comforting, joyful.

The Friends Who Helped Me Find My Way

While my father inspired this journey, my friends helped walk me through it.

They didn’t try to replace those coffee talks — no one could — but they showed up with new conversations, new laughter, and new comfort. They filled my cup in ways I didn’t even know I needed: encouraging me, reminding me who I was, and cheering me on as I began shaping this new chapter.

Their support is woven into The Mended Cup just as much as my father’s memory is.
